Module 02

Interview Preparation

From first impression to final offer — every tactic you need to ace any interview format.

01 — RESEARCH

Deep-Dive the Company Before You Walk In

Study the company's mission, recent funding news, product launches, and key executives. Reference specific details during the interview to signal genuine interest — interviewers remember candidates who've done their homework.

02 — STORIES

Prepare 8 Core STAR Stories

Cover leadership, failure, conflict, impact, and innovation. Have them ready for any behavioral prompt.

03 — NUMBERS

Quantify Every Achievement

"Improved performance" → "Reduced load time by 60%, boosting conversion by 18%." Numbers make stories stick.

04 — QUESTIONS

Ask 5 Thoughtful Questions

Prepare questions about the team, growth trajectory, and culture. Never ask what Google could answer.

05 — FOLLOW UP

Send a Personalized Thank-You

Within 24 hours. Reference one specific moment from the conversation to show you were truly present.

06 — MINDSET

Reframe Nervousness as Excitement

Physiologically, anxiety and excitement feel identical. Before entering, tell yourself "I'm excited" — studies show this simple reframe improves performance by 22%. Arrive 15 minutes early, breathe deeply, and remember: they're rooting for you to be the one.

S

Situation

Set the scene with essential context. Keep it brief — 1–2 sentences max.

T

Task

Describe your specific responsibility and what was expected of you.

A

Action

Walk through exactly what YOU did — use "I", not "we". Be specific and deliberate.

R

Result

Share the measurable outcome. What changed? What did you learn? What was the impact?

Sample STAR Answer

Situation

"Our checkout conversion had dropped 18% MoM due to latency issues just before a major sale event."

Task

"I was responsible for diagnosing the bottleneck and shipping a fix within 48 hours."

Action

"I profiled the API, found N+1 query issues, rewrote the ORM calls, and added Redis caching for product listings."

Result

"Page load dropped from 4.2s to 0.8s. Conversion recovered and hit an all-time high during the sale — 31% above the previous year."

BehavioralTell me about a time you failed. What did you learn?+

Focus on a real failure, own it fully without excuses, then pivot immediately to the concrete lesson and how you applied it. End with the positive outcome of that learning. Avoid choosing trivial "failures" — interviewers see through them.

ClassicWhat is your greatest weakness?+

Choose a genuine but non-critical weakness. Describe what you've done to improve it and show measurable progress. Example: "I used to struggle with delegation — I've since implemented weekly 1:1s and explicit ownership frameworks with my team."

StrategyWhere do you see yourself in 5 years?+

Align your answer with the role's growth trajectory. Show ambition but ground it in the company's context: "I'd like to grow into a senior technical role where I'm leading cross-functional projects — which is why the growth path at [Company] is exciting to me."

SalaryWhat are your salary expectations?+

Research market rates on LinkedIn Salary, Glassdoor, and Levels.fyi. Give a confident range anchored at the top of your target. "Based on my research and experience, I'm targeting ₹X–Y LPA, though I'm flexible depending on the full package."

CultureWhy do you want to work here specifically?+

Reference 2–3 specific, researched points: a recent product launch, company value that resonates, or a specific team initiative. Show you've read beyond the homepage. Generic "great company culture" answers are immediately forgettable.

DifficultTell me about a conflict with a colleague. How did you handle it?+

Choose a professional disagreement (not personal conflict). Show you sought understanding first, communicated directly and respectfully, and reached a constructive resolution. Never blame — frame it as "we had different perspectives that we aligned."

👁️

Eye Contact

Maintain 60–70% contact. In panel interviews, address your answer to the questioner but sweep others in naturally.

🪑

Posture

Sit at the chair's edge, lean forward slightly. Feet flat, hands visible. Power posture before entering boosts confidence hormones.

😊

Genuine Smile

A Duchenne smile (eyes + mouth) is disarming and memorable. Don't force it — recall something that genuinely makes you happy.

🗣️

Pace & Tone

Speak 20% slower than you think necessary. Vary your pitch — monotone delivery kills even the best content.

🤲

Hand Gestures

Open palm gestures above the table signal honesty. Keep them purposeful — hands below the table reads as closed off.

Energy & Presence

Match or slightly exceed the interviewer's energy. Enthusiasm is infectious and memorable — bring it in the first 60 seconds.

Module 06

Resources Library

Handpicked tools, books, and templates from top career experts and hiring managers worldwide.

📗
